UNTOLD IDENTITIES

Temporary structures, closed down factories and demolished parts are all objects of a series of photos, which deals with the visual identity and potential of these overseen industrial structures and surfaces. Architectural objects, which function has been the generator for the form, and which aesthetic value has not been planned.

Through the motif and the capturing of layers and historic depth, the objects are being given an aesthetic identity and their functional story is being told.

Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Redhook are some of the areas of New York, which are going through a transformation from former industrial areas to residential and commercial areas. Factories and old storages have been left to be demolished, and only their space, structure and surface are now only left with the trace of use.

This opens up for the discussion about architecture today and the values within. It opens up for the idea of actually using these structures as frames for new programs. Using the potentials in the existing structure and in the aestethics of the used surfaces.

HUSET VED KONGENS HAVE

Interior job, August 2008 - July 2009
Independent Commision

Huset ved Kongens Have is a classic cocktailbar + Gallery. The place has its frames on two floors, in all 250 m2, in an old charming city house right at Kings Garden in the heart of Copenhagen.
Conceptually the place has its roots in the classic speakeasy cocktailsbars of New York City in the 20ties and 30ties. It was important that the design accommodated the need for an intimate atmosphere, which would create focus on the quality and craft behind the creation of a cocktail..

The design of the interior contains a strong and simple structure with a strong relation to its context. With the use of recycling material and objects, it was possible to design within the low budget.

It was important to let the old and charming space speak for itself and not kill the characteristics with too much furniture. By creating a strong structure in design, there is open for change in function and influence by the users of the space. In that way the audience and the exhibited art will be a part of the overall identity of the place, and it will remain a dynamic space for shifting art exhitions and parties.
To create an intimate atmospheare there have been used limited lightning on the walls through-out the two floors. On the bartables, the standing light in each corner create their own intimate space for the costumers standing around it.
The style of the furniture is based on the classic furniture / 1930 inspired interior, with a scent of the fairy tale atmosphere, which characterises the location, at the Kings Garden, Rosenborgkvarteret in Copenhagen.

BECKSÖNDERGAARD

Setdesign job - Concept development
May 2009 - July 2009
Independent Commision

Becksöndergaard is a Danish fashion brand of accessories.
They ordered a new and innovative design for their fair trade shows in
Copenhagen and Milano.

The company wished for more flexibilty, functionality and at the same
time they wanted something innovative that would create a strong character
and personality to their space. In order to accomondate the need for flexibility
there were designed shelfs of metal and wood, which would create options for different ways of use.

All furniture are on wheels, wich means they can be placed in different possitions according to the specific need.
Old window frames on wheels were introduced as a personal element that would create options for different ways of showing the products. The rough texture of the frames creates a contrast to the new shelfs and together they create a functional, but characteristic background for the accessories of Becksöndergaard.
